MCES Summer Food Service Program

The organization provides meals, breakfast, lunch, supper over 17 community center/After school Centers. The program provides nutritious meals at no expense to children in low-income Communities during the summer. The program does not require registrations. Adults with Inabilities and over the age of 18 can participate the program. SFSP/CACFP contributes to the healthy, growth and development of low-income children often alongside with a recreational activity, to help address growing evidence of the risk of children gaining weight over the summer months. Many SFSP sites also provide educational and enrichment activities in addition to the meals, which enables children to learn and stay safe when school is out, mitigating the harmful effects of summer learning loss and ensuring that children are better able to learn when they return to school. The program draws children to the activities offered at sites and maintain their participation in a structured summer learning program. The program helps parents stretch their food dollars at home during the summer months. Food budgets often increase due to the lack of access to school meals, but summer meal programs can also help mitigate child care costs due to the programming offered.

MCES Child and Adult Care Food Program

Notice to All Centers (Sites) Parents t & Guardians

As a current SFSP 2020 sponsor, it is our intention to continue SFSP programming per the USDA’s waiver extension. As a community sponsor, we are continuing the program because of the following challenges that are facing our community.

⦁ Some of our student we serve are attending schools virtually in charter schools that are not providing or not delivering meals to their houses.

⦁ Our objective utilizing the USDA SFSP program continuation extension is to continue the program by doing everything we can to provide quality and nutritious SFSP meals to every eligible child in our community. The organization in partnering our local community centers is effectively deploying all methods available including Grab N’ Go from our site and House Delivery to ensure and to maintain our children’s access to the SFSP meals, to ease the burden from local schools and to support families experiencing financial hardships while prioritizing the safety and the health of our children, employees and parents during the Covid-19 Crisis.

⦁ The organization in partnership with the local community centers (sites) put a plan and management structure in place to ensure the integrity of the program to make sure to avoid double dipping, i.e. to avoid other sites or other sponsor whether school or any other nonprofit offering the same meals to the same students and claiming the same meals. It is our policy to ask every parent before registering the program if they receive meals from any other sponsor or from their community schools to avoid double claiming.
